UPDATED; 2/16/23... last night the members of the Geneva City Council determined that the Geneva Chief of Police will be able to live in communities surrounding the City of Geneva, lifting the current City residency requirement. A new resolution modifying the residency requirement will be part of the March 1, 2023 Council Agenda. The members of council stated their support for recruiting the best candidate to lead the department, without requiring the applicant to live in the city. While the final discussion about boundaries related to residency will be at the March 1 meeting, the members of council wanted it to be clear prior to the application deadline that the residency requirement should not hinder quality candidates to participate in the process and become selected as the next Chief.
